The Eat Pono Fund was established by Candes Gentry to support community initiatives that are committed to providing engaging and educational opportunities for keiki.

Eat Pono was inspired by Poet Gentry, a Hawaiʻi-born, 10-year-old, to empower youth to make healthy food choices for their optimal growth, to encourage kuleana for the ‘āina, and to perpetuate traditional farming, fishing, and hunting practices for future generations to live more sustainably. The mission of Eat Pono is also an ode to the shared legacy of Poet’s parents, Candes Gentry and Steve Shropshire, known for their collective commitment to global exploration, agricultural stewardship, and cross-sector philanthropic contributions throughout Hawaiʻi.
