Year-end Charitable Gifts and Grantmaking Deadlines
Hawai‘i Community Foundation (HCF) is here to help you and your clients with end-of-year charitable gift and grant plans. To ensure that gifts are recorded in 2022 and your grants are received by December 31st here is the deadline schedule for you and your clients to keep in mind:
- Grant recommendations should be made by December 6, 2022 to ensure checks are received by the end of the year. Please do so by emailing your island HCF contact or using DonorSphere.
- Gifts of appreciated stock should be made by December 23, 2022. (If the stock is transferred by December 31, 2022 it will qualify, but the earlier date decreases any unforeseen delays.)
- Checks sent via the U.S. Postal Service to HCF must be postmarked on or before December 31, 2022.
- Checks sent via carriers such as FedEx, UPS and DHL must be physically received at any HCF office on or before December 31, 2022.
- Wire transfers of cash must be initiated no later than December 23, 2022. (If the cash is wired by December 31, 2022, it will qualify, but the earlier date decreases any unforeseen delays.)
- Credit card gifts handled online can be made on or before December 31, 2022 at hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/give.
If you miss a deadline, we will do our best to meet the 2022 requirements, but unfortunately cannot guarantee that your gift will apply to the 2022 tax year or that your grant is received by December 31st.
We are ready to help you and your clients complete their year-end charitable giving and have staff available to provide answers and process transactions until the last day of the year.
However, our offices will be closed on the following days:
- Friday, December 24 at noon through Monday, December 26, 2022.
- Friday, December 30 at noon through Monday, January 2, 2023.
