The RECSSA Tool

What is the RECSSA? What is the Purpose?
The Resilient Early Childhood System Self-Assessment (RECSSA) is a systems tool, designed to simplify the process and identify primary indicators of change in order to help guide organizations and communities towards deeper, systemic changes that are required in order to be trauma informed.

The RECSSA tool was designed to break down the process and identify key indicators to help guide organizations and communities toward deeper changes that are needed in the process to become trauma informed. The RECSSA framework includes four system domains:

  • Leadership
  • Quality Improvement (Programs)
  • Infrastructure (Organization)
  • Partnerships and Alignment (Community)

The RECSSA is intended for all those who are a part of the early childhood system. These organizations include but are not limited to:

  • Early childhood programs
  • Childcare/early learning programs, including preschools
  • Head Start and/or Early Head Start programs
  • Early childhood committees or coalitions
  • Intermediary organizations - that provide training and technical assistance

These resources provide a detailed description of the RECSSA domains, objectives, and indicators of progress (ratings).
