For Neighbor Island Nonprofit Organizations
Hawaiʻi Community Foundation (HCF) is offering a limited number of travel scholarships for neighbor island nonprofit organizations to increase access and utilization of professional development training that will support organizational capacity. These funds are intended to defray travel costs for nonprofit employees or Board members related to attending training sessions, conferences and educational programs on Oahu or another neighbor island location. Scholarships must be approved by HCF prior to travel and are offered on a first come, first served basis by calendar year. Travel scholarships are $200 per person and may be used for airline and ground transportation expenses.
To be eligible, the participant’s organization must meet the following requirements:
- The organization is a nonprofit 501(c)3.
- Maximum of one scholarship per person, per year, will be awarded.
- Maximum of two scholarships per organization, per year, will be awarded.
- Travel scholarships will be awarded to the same organization to attend the same conference for up to two consecutive years. After two consecutive years, the organization may reapply in two years following the last conference date.
To apply for a scholarship:
- Complete the application through our grants portal. New users may register for an account here. Registered users may log in to their account to submit an application. For your convenience, please review the questions below prior to logging into the grants portal.

- • Attendee Name(s) and Title(s) (up to two (2) attendees).
- • Name of Conference, Program or Training, Location and Date of Conference.
- • What do you hope to gain by attending the conference, program, or training session?
- • How will you use the knowledge you acquire?
- Invoice or receipt indicating the cost of your airline ticket.
- Proof of registration to the workshop or conference.
- Please refrain from submitting your travel scholarship application form until you have obtained all your supporting documents. Applications will be considered complete and submitted for approval once the application form and all supporting documents are received.
- Applications and all supporting documents must be received prior to the conference date to be considered.
- A check will be issued payable to the organization (not an individual) after the conference date.
