Common Application Funds


100th Infantry Battalion Memorial Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a direct descendant of a 100th Infantry Battalion World War II Veteran. The burden of proof is the applicant's responsibility. If the club cannot verify the name of the veteran as a member of the WWII 100th Infantry Battalion, the applicant must be ready to provide alternate proof. Illustrate a willingness to promote the legacy of the 100th Infantry Battalion of World War II. Demonstrate academic achievement, minimum GPA of 3.5. Attend an accredited two-or-four year college or university as a undergraduate or graduate student. Be a full-time student (12 credits undergraduate, 6-9 credits graduate). Be active in extra-curricular activities and community service. Applicants do not need to be Hawai‘i residents. Separate Essay required - see below for details.

ABC Stores Jumpstart Scholarship
Prerequisites: Be an employee or dependent of an employee of ABC Stores or Company Island Gourmet Markets. Applicants must be residents of Hawai‘i, Nevada, Guam or Saipan. Be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student.

Aiea General Hospital Association Scholarship
Description:  Aiea General Hospital closed its doors in 1983. With the hospital's remaining assets, its Board of Directors established a trust in 1985 as an expression of gratitude to area residents for their many years of support.
Prerequisites: Be an undergraduate majoring in a health-related field. Be a resident of one of these Leeward O‘ahu zip code areas: 96701, 96706, 96707, 96782, 96792 or 96797. Two letters of recommendation required.

Allan Eldin & Agnes Sutorik Geiger Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Major in Veterinary Science. Minimum GPA 3.0.

Alma White - Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship
Description:  Alma White was a long-time teacher and principal in Hawai‘i. When she died, she left a great part of her assets to the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Delta Chapter, of which she was a member. The Society is an educational society dedicated to the advancement of women educators. The Chapter members established this scholarship which will enable future generations of Hawai‘i students to pursue teaching as their life's calling.
Prerequisites: Major in Education. Be a college junior, senior or graduate student. Applicants must submit a letter from their school confirming enrollment in the Education program. Two letters of recommendation required.

American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) Honolulu Chapter Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Major in Graphic Design, Visual Communication or Commercial Arts.

Bal Dasa Scholarship
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of Waipahu High School.

Blossom Kalama Evans Memorial Scholarship Fund
Description:  This scholarship was funded by the family of Blossom Kalama Evans with donations from the Big Island Girls Golf Club. Blossom Kalama Evans was a long time resident of Hilo and a leading woman golfer on the Big Island where she formed the Big Island Hawaiian Girls Golf Club. She was devoted to assisting the people of Hawai‘i.
Prerequisites: Be of Hawaiian ancestry. Be a college junior, senior or graduate student. Include in your personal statement how your knowledge will be used to serve the needs of the Native Hawaiian community.

Booz Allen Hawaii Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be an undergraduate student. Minimum GPA of 3.0.

Camille C. Chidiac Fund
Description:  This scholarship was established in 1991 by Charles Chidiac to honor Ka‘u High School students.
Prerequisites: Be a high school senior from Ka‘u High School. See special instructions for personal statement below.

Candon, Todd, & Seabolt Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Major in Accounting and/or Finance. Be a college Junior or Senior. Minimum GPA 3.2.

Castle & Cooke George W.Y. Yim Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a dependent of a current employee with at least one year of service with a Castle and Cooke Hawai‘i affiliated company. Minimum GPA 3.0.

Castle & Cooke Mililani Technology Park Scholarship Fund
Description:  Castle & Cooke Properties created this fund when they built the Mililani Technology Park as a way of recognizing outstanding students from Central O‘ahu and to encourage studies in high technology fields.
Prerequisites: Be a high school senior from Leilehua, Mililani or Waialua High School. Preference is given to students majoring in a high technology field, such as Science and Engineering.

Cayetano Foundation Scholarship
Description:  The Cayetano Foundation provides opportunities in higher education to exceptional Hawai‘i students - especially those who have demonstrated perseverance and determination in the face of difficult financial and social obstacles. Governor Benjamin Cayetano's personal experiences and awareness of the hardships of others were part of the impetus for creating this scholarship.
Prerequisites: Be a graduating high school senior. Minimum GPA 3.5. Preference will be given to students with the greatest financial need. Two letters of recommendation are required. Include in your personal statement a description of your participation in community service projects or activities. In addition to your personal statement, an essay is required (see below for topic). New for 2011-12: Include on a separate piece of paper your name, your father's and mother's occupation and 2010 income.

Celeste Hayo Memorial Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of King Kekaulike High School. Minimum GPA (grade point average) of 2.9. High preference for a high school or former high school soccer player. High preference for a student pursuing a nursing major. Preference for a student who has performed community service.

Community Scholarship Fund
Description:  The Community Scholarship Fund was established in 1947 and is funded through contributions from the following: Atherton Family Foundation, Frear Eleemosynary Trust, Thelma Grace Hansen Fund, Gail Perry Fund, Eugenia Perry Fund and many other community members, including previous recipients of this scholarship. This scholarship is literally from the community to the community and aims to help those students who show the most potential, through their education, to benefit Hawai‘i.
Prerequisites: Major in any of the following fields: Arts, Architecture, Education, Humanities or Social Science. Maintain a 3.0 GPA. Show potential for filling a community need. Demonstrate accomplishment, motivation, initiative and vision and intention of returning to or staying in Hawai‘i to work.

Cora Aguda Manayan Fund
Description:  This scholarship is funded by Dr. Cora Manayan, a prominent doctor and community activist in Hawai‘i. To Dr. Manayan, living the good life means dedicating one's life to serving others. Understanding the value of education, she established this fund to open the doors of education to others like her.
Prerequisites: Be of Filipino ancestry. Major in a health-related field. Preference may be given to students studying in Hawai‘i.

Craig D. Newnan Memorial Scholarship
Description:  This scholarship was set up by C. Jean Shewey in honor of her late son Craig D. Newnan, the founder of Expeditions, the only passenger ferry running between Lahaina, Maui, and Manele Harbor, Lana'i.
Prerequisites: Be a Lana'i High School graduate. Preference given to students in the fields of Education, Travel Industry Management, or studies related to the Maritime Industry.

Dan & Pauline Lutkenhouse & Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden Scholarship
Description:  Mr. & Mrs. Lutkenhouse created this fund to benefit the youth in the community in which they live. They have helped foster and preserve the culture and beauty of this coast through the establishment of the Hawai‘i Tropical Botanical Garden.
Prerequisites: Be a resident of the Hilo Coast and the Hamakua Coast, north of the Wailuku River. Major in Agriculture, Science, Medicine or Nursing.

David L. Irons Memorial Scholarship Fund
Description:  This scholarship was established by the family of David L. Irons, a man who was known for his fairness and sense of justice, his commitment to the community, his sense of humor, and his concern and interest in the legal system. The scholarship is to benefit one deserving Punahou student.
Prerequisites: Be a graduating high school senior of Punahou School. Special instructions for personal statement. See below.

Dolly Ching Scholarship
Prerequisites: Be a graduating high school senior from the island of Kaua‘i. Attend any school in the University of Hawai‘i system. Two letters of recommendation required.

Doris and Clarence Glick Classical Music Scholarship
Description:  Established in 1996 through the will of Clarence Glick, a long time teacher at the University of Hawai‘i, this scholarship perpetuates the Glicks\' love for classical music.
Prerequisites: Major in Music with emphasis on classical music. In your personal statement, describe your program of study as it relates to classical music.

Dr. Alvin & Monica Saake Foundation Scholarship
Description:  This scholarship is named for Dr. Alvin Saake, a former coach of the University of Hawai‘i basketball team in the 1950's and 60's who passed away in 2003. His commitment to higher education lives on in this scholarship. You were chosen for your interest in the fields of Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Leisure Science or other related fields.
Prerequisites: Be a college junior, senior or graduate student. Major in Kinesiology, Leisure Science, Physical Education, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy.

Dr. and Mrs. Moon Park Scholarship
Prerequisites: Be an employee or child dependent with a minimum of at least one year of service of Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii, LLP and/or Pan Pacific Pathologies, LLC at the time of application and awarding. Minimum GPA (Grade Point Average) of at least 3.0. May attend a college or university in Hawaii or the Continental United States.

Dr. Hans and Clara Zimmerman Foundation Education Scholarship
Prerequisites: Major in Education with emphasis on teaching. Preference given to non-traditional students with at least two years of teaching experience. Preference given to students of Hawaiian ethnicity. Minimum GPA 2.8. Two letters of recommendation required. Include in your Personal Statement any community service you have been involved in, and explain why you are involved in these activities. Include in your Personal Statement the answer to the question --What is your teaching philosophy? And how is your philosophy being applied in the classroom today (provide an example)? IMPORTANT: Applicants are automatically disqualified if they do not address their teaching philosophy in the Personal Statement.

Dr. Hans and Clara Zimmerman Foundation Health Scholarships
Description:  Dr. Hans Zimmerman established this foundation to provide financial assistance to individuals in Hawai‘i wishing to pursue an education in a health field. During his long and productive career in Hawai‘i, Dr. Zimmerman encouraged countless individuals to choose careers in medicine. At his death, additional assets came into the foundation so that it is now one of the largest scholarship funds in Hawai‘i.
Prerequisites: Plan to major in a health-related field in a school in the USA (not including sports medicine, psychology unless clinical, social work). Be a college junior, senior or graduate student. Minimum GPA 3.0. Personal statement should include a description of your participation in community service projects or activities.

E.E. Black Scholarship Fund
Description:  This fund memorializes E.E. Black, chairman and president of The Gas Company, now Tesoro Hawai‘i. He is credited with revitalizing the company which was in danger of failing when he took charge. To recognize Mr. Black\'s numerous contributions, Tesoro\'s then board of directors established this fund in his honor. The scholarships go to dependents of employees at Tesoro Hawai‘i.
Prerequisites: Be a dependent of an employee of Tesoro Hawai‘i or its subsidiaries. Be an undergraduate. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Eastside & Northshore Kaua‘i Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a resident of one of the following East and Northshore Kaua‘i areas: Anahola (96703), Kapa‘a (96746), Kilauea (96754), Hanalei (96714), Princeville (96722), Kealia (96751), Wailua (96746). Minimum GPA (grade point average) of 2.5. One letter of recommendation required.

Edward Payson and Bernice Piilani Irwin Scholarship
Description:  This scholarship is named in honor of Bernice Pi‘ilani Irwin who was a friend of Queen Lili‘u‘okalani. Bernice was the author of a collection of Hawaiian tales called "In Menehune Land." She also wrote a popular column for the Honolulu Advertiser and later for the Honolulu Times, which was edited by her husband Edwin Irwin. Her column was entitled "Kahuna Nui, the Old Sage of Kaka‘ako," and was a discourse on politics and civic affairs, written in pidgin. The Irwins set up this trust fund to students who, like Bernice, wish to have careers in journalism.
Prerequisites: Major in Journalism or Communications. Be a college junior, senior or graduate student.

Eizo & Toyo Sakumoto Trust Scholarship
Description:  Toyo Sakumoto was born in Hilo in 1904 & attended Hilo High School. After marrying Eizo, she helped to run his photography shop in Honolulu. They had no children but loved "youngsters", and Eizo spent time as a baseball coach for a boy's team. The Sakumotos established this trust to promote the importance of higher education.
Prerequisites: Be a Graduate (post baccalaureate)Student. Be of Japanese ancestry. Attend college in Hawaii. Applicants must have been born in Hawaii. Minimum GPA 3.5

Elena Albano "Maka'alohilohi" Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be in recovery from a mental health / behavioral / or psychological disability. Be a resident of Maui County. Preference given to students of Hawaii ancestry and renewal applicants.

Ellison Onizuka Memorial Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduating high school senior. Major in Aerospace Engineering or related fields. Grade transcripts must include SAT scores. Two letters of recommendation required. Include in your personal statement a description of your participation in extra-curricular activities, club affiliations or community service projects.

Elsie S. Yoshizawa Hotta Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of Baldwin High School. Major in Education.

Esther Kanagawa Memorial Art Scholarship
Prerequisites: Major in Fine Arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics or photography).

F. Koehnen Ltd. Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of a high school on the island of Hawai‘i. Attend a four year college or university. Be a son, daughter or grandchild of an employee of a retail establishment on the island of Hawai‘i. Minimum GPA 2.5.

Filipino Nurses' Organization of Hawai‘i Scholarship
Prerequisites: Be of Filipino ancestry. Major in Nursing.

Financial Women International Scholarship
Prerequisites: Major in Business or a business related field. Be a female. Be a junior, senior or graduate student. Minimum GPA 3.5.

Fletcher & Fritzi Hoffman Educational Fund
Prerequisites: Be a long time resident of the Hamakua Coast on the island of Hawai‘i. Attend school on the island of Hawai‘i. Include in your personal statement information on your families' history and roots in the Hamakua area. Preference given to Honoka'a High School graduates.

Friends of Hawai‘i Public Housing Scholarship
Description:  This scholarship is funded by The Friends of Hawai‘i's Public Housing (FHPH), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting public housing tenants in Hawai‘i.
Prerequisites: Be a resident of a public housing unit in Hawai‘i. Indicate the name of the public housing complex in your personal statement.

GEAR UP Scholars Program
Prerequisites: Be a 2006, 2007, 2008 or 2009 high school graduate. Be a Gear Up Scholar. Earn a State of Hawai‘i Board of Education Recognition Diploma. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Be eligible for a federal Pell Grant. IMPORTANT: We will use the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) reported on the Student Aid Report (SAR) that you submit with your application to determine scholarship eligibility regardless of whether or not you have been selected for "verification" and/or your EFC is revised upward or downward at a later date.

George & Augusta Rapozo Kama`aina Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of a Kaua'i or Ni'ihau High School or Charter School. See "supplemental Materials" below for special instructions regarding your personal statement.

George Mason Business Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Major in Business Administration. Be a senior at any college or university in Hawai‘i. Minimum GPA 3.0. Include in your personal statement why you have chosen business as an intended career and how you expect to make a difference in the business world.

Gerrit R. Ludwig Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Graduates of the East Hawai‘i public schools: Hilo, Honoka‘a, Ka‘u, Kea‘au, Laupahoehoe, Pahoa, Waiakea. Preference given to students pursuing a degree in Fine Arts and Classics. Minimum GPA 2.5.

Good Eats Scholarship Fund
Description:  The purpose of The Good Eats Scholarship is to nurture future professionals in the fields of agriculture and culinary arts who will hopefully return to Hawaii to enhance the quality of food in the islands.
Prerequisites: Pursue post high school studies in the culinary arts or agriculture at an accredited institution in the continental U.S. Applicants should be able to demonstrate an interest in food production and preparation through participation in a high school or community college home economics, culinary arts or horticulture program or involvement in clubs or activities in this area.

Grace Pacific Outstanding Scholars Fund
Prerequisites: Be a former participant of the Grace Pacific Outstanding Keiki Scholars Program. Be a graduating high school senior at the time of application.

Guy Marshall Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Plan to attend a college or university in the continental United States. Graduate from a Hawai`i High School. For the initial scholarship grant, be a high school senior or entering college as a freshman (Scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years, but new applicants can only apply if they will be entering college as a freshman during the upcoming academic year).

H.C. Shipman Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of Kea‘au High School, Ke Kula ‘O Nawahiokalani‘opu‘u Ili Laboratory Public Charter School, or Waters of Life New Century Public Charter School. Attend a 4-year college or university. Minimum GPA 2.0.

Hawai'i Pizza Hut Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Demonstrate financial need. Be a resident of the state of Hawaii. Attend a two-year or four-year college or university. GPA (grade point average) of at least 2.5 but no more than 3.5.

Hawaii Pacific Gerontological Society Nursing Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be accepted in a nursing program at a two- or four-year college or university in Hawai'i. Pursue an RN or LPN degree with an interest in geriatric nursing

Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Major or concentrate in accounting. Must have already completed two or more 300-level accounting courses. Be a college Junior, Senior or Graduate Student. Attend school at an accredited four-year college or university in Hawai'i. Minimum GPA of 3.0. Special requirements for Personal Statement -- see below.

Hawaiian Homes Commission Scholarship
Description:  The Hawaiian Homes Commission Scholarships (HHCS) promotes and supports the educational advancement of native Hawaiians to achieve economic self-sufficiency. The HHCS provides financial award scholarships to qualified native Hawaiians enrolled as classified full-time students in degree-seeking programs at accredited post-high educational institutions. The scholarships are for an academic year and are to be used for the standard primary cost of education (limited to tuition, fees, books, supplies, and cost of living allowances).
Prerequisites: Scholarships will be awarded to students who are either: 1. native Hawaiian (of at least 50% Hawaiian blood quantum); OR 2. Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) lessees. DHHL will contact scholarship applicants to verify 50% Hawaiian blood quantum or status as a lessee. Scholarship applicants will be required to provide birth certificates and/or other documents to verify eligibility. Scholarship applicants must be enrolled as classified students. Minimum GPA: 2.0, undergraduates; 3.0 graduates Scholarship applicants are not required to be residents of Hawai'i.

Hawai‘i Veterans Memorial Fund Scholarship
Description:  The Hawai‘i Veterans Memorial Fund was established in 1945 in honor of Hawai‘i veterans of World War II. The Fund\'s first priority is to support Hawai‘i\'s schools by giving grants to undergraduate students and graduate students attending college in Hawai‘i. Knowing that some advanced course work is unavailable in Hawai‘i, the Fund also supports graduate students on the mainland.
Prerequisites: Be a college Graduate student (Post Baccalaureate) attending school in the United States. Minimum GPA 3.5. Applicants do NOT have to be veterans or children of veterans to in order to apply for this scholarship. An additional award is given to an outstanding graduate student who has demonstrated high academic achievement, excellent character and the potential for combining professional endeavors with community service in Hawai‘i. This award is named in honor of attorney Robert K. Murakami, one of the original founders of the fund. Students wishing to be considered for the special Murakami award are required to submit two letters of recommendation with their applications.

Henry A Zuberano Scholarship
Prerequisites: Major in Political Science, International Relations, International Business or Public Administration. Be an undergraduate student.

Herbert & Ollie Brook Fund
Prerequisites: Be a high school senior in Maui County. Preference for students who can persevere and complete a program of study. Preference given to individuals who want to return to Maui County after completing their education or training in order to contribute to the community that formed them.

Hideko & Zenzo Matsuyama Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of a high school or secondary education equivalent (General Education Diploma) in the state of Hawaii. Minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference may be given to students of Japanese ancestry born in Hawaii.

Hilo Chinese School Scholarship
Prerequisites: Be a resident of Hawai‘i Island. Be a full-time student. Minimum GPA 2.5. Preference given first to descendants of Hilo Chinese School alumni and second to students of Chinese ancestry.

Hokuli`a Foundation Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a resident of North or South Kona. Plan to study in the fields of Healthcare, Education, or Social Work. Preference given to students demonstrating an emphasis in advancing Native Hawaiian culture. Include in your personal statement a record of your community service and a description of how your future career may benefit the lives of Hawai'i residents and/or advance Native Hawaaiian culture upon completion of your education. Also provide information about your intentions to stay in or return to Kona or Hawai'i after completing your education.

Hon Chew Hee Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Attend an accredited two or four year college, university, or art school. Major in Fine Arts with preference given to students focusing on painting, drawing, sculpting, ceramics, printmaking, or textile. Minimum GPA of 2.7. 2 Letters of Recommendation Required - One from an art instructor.

Ho‘omaka Hou Scholarship
Description:  The Ho‘omaka Hou scholarship was established to provide financial support for students like you that have turned your life around after overcoming difficulties in the past. With help and perseverance, you are now ready to make changes and realize hope through education. You may have always had the dream or desire to pursue schooling for a specific career, and now you are at a point in your life where you can make education a priority.
Prerequisites: For students who have turned their lives around after overcoming substance abuse.

Ian Doane Smith Memorial Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a resident of the island of Maui. Be an active participant in soccer and/or surfing. Be a graduating high school senior. Personal Statement must include details of the applicant\'s experiences as an active participant in soccer and/or surfing and a description of applicant\'s participation in community service projects or activities.

Ichiro & Masako Hirata Scholarships
Prerequisites: Major or concentrate in Education. Be a junior, senior, or graduate student. Be a full-time student. Minimum GPA 3.0

Ida M. Pope Memorial Scholarship
Prerequisites: Be of Hawaiian ancestry (first time applicants must submit a copy of their birth certificate to verify ancestry). Be a female. Minimum 3.5 GPA. Pursue a major in one of the following fields: Health, Science, Education (includes couseling & social work).

Isemoto Contracting Co., Ltd. Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of a Hawaii Island High School. Be accepted as an upper classman into one of the following college programs: a school of engineering, a teacher education program, a nursing program.

Jean Fitzgerald Scholarship
Description:  The scholarship is a memorial to Jean Fitzgerald who was a very active participant in the Hawai‘i Pacific Tennis Association. Jean felt it was important for young tennis players to pursue higher education in order to augment their tennis skills and be successful in other arenas besides the tennis court.
Prerequisites: Be an active tennis player; preference may be given to USTA/Hawai‘i Pacific Section members. Be a female. Be an incoming freshman.

John Dawe Dental Education Fund
Description:  This scholarship fund commemorates the life of Dr. John H. Dawe, who, with loyalty and dedication, served the Hawai‘i Dental Association and the Honolulu County Dental Society during most of his professional life.
Prerequisites: Be enrolled in a school of Dentistry, Dental Hygiene or Dental Assisting. Applicants must submit a letter from their school confirming enrollment in the Dentistry or Dental Hygiene program form. Two letters of recommendation required.

Joseph & Alice Duarte Memorial Fund
Prerequisites: Be from the North or South Kona districts of the island of Hawai‘i. Preference given to graduates of Holualoa Elementary School.

Juliette M. Atherton Scholarship - Minister's Sons & Daughters
Description:  The Board of Directors of the Atherton Family Foundation sets aside a portion of the Foundation's income each year to be used for scholarships. These scholarships perpetuate Mrs. Atherton's interest in sustaining Protestant Christian endeavors in Hawai‘i.
Prerequisites: Be a dependent son or daughter of an ordained and active Protestant minister in an established denomination in Hawai‘i. Applicants must provide in their personal statement the following information: minister's current position, church/parish name, denomination, place & date of ordination and name of seminary attended.

Juliette M. Atherton Scholarship - Seminary Studies
Description:  The Board of Directors of the Atherton Family Foundation sets aside a portion of the Foundation's income each year to be used for scholarships. These scholarships perpetuate Mrs. Atherton's interest in sustaining Protestant Christian endeavors in Hawai‘i.
Prerequisites: Attend an accredited graduate school of theology with the goal of being ordained in an established Protestant denomination.

K.M. Hatano Scholarship Fund
Description:  The K.M. Hatano Scholarship Fund was created in 1987 through the generosity of Mr. Yasuji Hatano, President of Kokusai Motorcars Company of Japan. The scholarship was established to recognize men and women from Maui, Lana‘i and Moloka‘i who have excelled academically and have shown leadership and community involvement.
Prerequisites: Be a High School Senior from the County of Maui (including Lana‘i & Moloka‘i). Attend a four-year college or university in the State of Hawai‘i.

Kahala Nui Residents Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be an employee or a dependent of an employee of Kahala Senior Living Community, Inc. for at least 6 months as of March 1, 2010. Attend an accredited 2 or 4 year not-for-profit college or university.

Kahiau Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate from Kohala High School. Be from a family that has lived in the North Kohala community for at least two generations. Must be attending an out-of-state college or university, or a four year university on O'ahu In your Personal Statement describe how your community activities exemplify the meaning of kahiau (translated as giving generously from the heart with no expectation of return).

Kalihi Education Coalition Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Meet eligibility requirements listed under either #1 OR #2. #1 - Be a resident of Kalihi-Palama with one of the following zip codes: 96817 or 96819. Minimum GPA 3.0. Be a graduate or undergraduate student. OR #2 - Be a current year graduating senior from Damien High School, Farrington High School or Kamehameha Schools (Kapalama campus). Minimum GPA 3.0

Kaneta Foundation Scholarship
Prerequisites: Be a member in good standing in any Christian church in Hawai‘i. Be a 2010 high school graduate. Past Kaneta Scholarship recipients seeking to renew their scholarships for the upcoming academic year should apply to "Kaneta Foundation Scholarship Renewals". Minimum GPA 3.0. (Grade transcript must include SAT or ACT scores unless student is a renewal applicant, in which case scores do not need to be resubmitted). Two letters of recommendation required: one from the applicant's pastor/minister and one from a teacher/counselor. Students already on a Kaneta Scholarship and seeking to renew their awards do not need to submit letters. Include in your personal statement a description of your family dynamics, discussion of any adversities you have overcome and your participation in community service.

Kaneta Foundation Scholarship Renewals
Prerequisites: Be a Previous recipient of the Kaneta Foundation Scholarship. If you were not a Kaneta Scholarship recipient in a previous year, you are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. Please submit a short 1 to 2 page progress report / personal statement and an official grade transcript. Unless you are applying to other scholarships, you do not need to submit a Student Aid Report (SAR).

Kapolei Community & Business Scholarship
Prerequisites: Be a current year graduating Senior from Campbell, Nanakuli or Waianae High Schools.

Kawasaki-McGaha Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Attend Hawai‘i Pacific University pursuing an undergraduate degree. Major in Computer Studies or International Studies.

Kazuma and Ichiko Hisanaga Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a current year graduating senior of Hilo High School. If there are no eligible applicants from Hilo High School, current year graduating seniors will be considered from other Hawai'i Island high schools in the following order of preference: Waiakea High School, St. Joseph High School, other Hawai'i Island high schools. Be an athlete that participated in more than one varsity sport while in high school. Atttend a NAIA or Division III school on the mainland. Have a minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA. Have leadership experience and qualities as demonstrated by serving as the captain of a varsity sports team, a student government leader or an officer of an extracurricular program. Have participated in community service. Additional Essay and Letter of Recommendation Required - see details below.

Ka‘a‘awa Community Fund
Prerequisites: Be a resident of the Ka‘a‘awa area on Windward O‘ahu. Preference given to long time residents of Ka‘a‘awa.

Ka‘iulani Home For Girls Trust Scholarship
Description:  The Ka‘iulani Home for Girls originally provided housing for young women of Hawaiian ancestry. Kamehameha Schools used the building from 1950 to 1962 to board female students attending the schools. When the home became so old it could not be repaired, it was demolished and the property sold. The Ka‘iulani Home for Girls Trust was established in 1963 and it continues the original mission of supporting Hawaiian females.
Prerequisites: Be of Hawaiian ancestry (first time applicants must submit a copy of their birth certificates to verify ancestry). Be a female. Be a college freshman or sophomore (past recipients who will be juniors or seniors are also eligible to apply). Minimum GPA 3.0.

King Kekaulike High School Scholarship
Description:  This scholarship was established by the KKHS WOW committee in 1998. The committee was formed to promote and recognize "wonderful and outstanding work" among staff members and students of Kekaulike High School.
Prerequisites: Be a current year graduating Senior of King Kekaulike High School. Minimum GPA 2.8 and 3 or more hours of community service. Children of King Kekaulike High School staff members not eligible. Additional essay required (see below).

Kohala Ditch Educational Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of Kohala High School.

Koloa Scholarship
Description:  Established in 1994 by members of the Smith-Waterhouse family of Koloa, Kaua‘i, this scholarship honors the memory of Dr. James W. and Melicent Knapp Smith, who arrived in Koloa in 1842, and their descendants Dr. Jared Knapp Smith, Dr. Alfred Herbert and Mabel Palmer Waterhouse. Each of these doctors and their wives were active in founding and furthering public education in the Koloa area.
Prerequisites: Be a resident of one of the following Kaua‘i areas: Koloa (96756), including Oma'o & Poipu (96756), Lawai (96765) or Kalaheo (96741). Minimum GPA: 2.0. Two letters of recommendation & essay required (see below).

Korean University Club Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be of Korean ancestry. Minimum GPA 2.7. Demonstrate financial need.

Kurt W. Schneider Memorial Scholarship Fund
Description:  This scholarship was established by the Pacific Business Institute for Business & Culture in memory of Kurt Schneider, former President and CEO of Lana‘i Company and Lana‘i Resorts and is for seniors at Lana‘i High School.
Prerequisites: Be a graduating high school Senior of Lana‘i High School. Preference given to travel industry management majors.

Laheenae Rebecca Hart Gay Scholarship
Prerequisites: Major in Art. This scholarship is not for students studying video, film, performing arts or the culinary arts.

Laura Jean Armstrong Scholarship
Description:  This scholarship was created in memory of Dr. Laura Jean Armstrong, a nurse extraordinaire. Beginning her professional career as a registered nurse in private practice, Dr. Armstrong joined the Hawai‘i State Deptartment of Health in 1968. As a public servant, she passionately worked to improve the health and welfare of the underserved until her untimely death.
Prerequisites: Be a graduate student majoring in Nursing.

Laura N. Dowsett Fund
Description:  This fund memorializes Laura Dowsett who was instrumental in creating the first occupational therapy program in Hawai‘i. She was the director of the occupational therapy department at Queens Hospital for 16 years. She also founded the Occupational Therapy Association of Hawai‘i and served as its president for seven years.
Prerequisites: Be in an Occupational Therapy program. Be a college junior, senior or graduate student.

Laura Rowe Burdick Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a high school senior in Maui County. Preference for students who can persevere and complete a program of study. Preference given to individuals who want to return to Maui County after completing their education or training in order to contribute to the community that formed them.

Makia & Ann Malo Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate student. Major in Law at a school located in the state of Hawaii. Preference given to students of Hawaiian ancestry who demonstrate a desire to contribute to the Hawaiian community after earning their graduate degree.

Makinney & Pietsch Families Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be an employee or qualified dependent of Title Guaranty of Hawaii, Incorporated and Title Guaranty Escrow Services, Inc. and their respective subsidiary and affiliated corporations or entities. Eligible employees must be employed full-time and have been with Title Guaranty for at least one year. Be pursuing post secondary (college) studies. To apply for secondary school tuition assistance (grades 6-12), you must fill out a paper application. You will not be able to apply online. Margaret Jones Memorial Nursing Fund
Description:  The Margaret Jones Memorial Nursing Fund had its start in 1917, through a concert sponsored by the Hawaii Nurses Club (now called the Hawai‘i Nurses Association). The proceeds of the concert were used to establish a fund for nurses in need. The fund was named for Margaret Jones, a nurse killed when the S.S. Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine during World War I and now benefits nursing students.
Prerequisites: Be in a BSN or MSN Nursing program at UH Mānoa, UH Hilo or HPU or a Ph.D program in Hawai‘i or on the U.S. mainland. Be a college junior, senior or graduate student Preference may be given to members of the Hawai‘i Nurses Association. Minimum GPA 3.0

Marion Maccarrell Scott Scholarship
Description:  Gertrude F. Straub established this scholarship as a memorial to her father, M. M. Scott, who for many years was a teacher and principal in Hawai‘i's public school system. The scholarship benefits students from public high schools in Hawai‘i, planning to attend college on the mainland and who demonstrate a commitment to world peace.
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of a public high school in Hawai‘i. Plan to attend an accredited U.S. mainland college or university. Minimum GPA 2.8. Essay required (see below).

Mary Josephine Bloder Scholarship Fund
Description:  This scholarship was established by Mary Josephine Bloder, a science and math teacher at Lahainaluna High School for 23 years. The scholarship is to benefit Lahainaluna students with strong academic abilities, especially in the sciences.
Prerequisites: Be a current year graduating Senior of Lahainaluna High School. Have a high grade point average in the sciences. Preference is given to boarding students.

Mildred Towle Scholarship - Study Abroad
Description:  This scholarship is in honor of Mildred Towle who, after years of service with social welfare agencies on the mainland, came to Hawai‘i and served as Director of the International Institute of Hawai‘i and, later, Director of Adult Education, both program areas at the YWCA of O‘ahu. She was known and honored for her commitment to better relations among all people.
Prerequisites: Study in a foreign country as a junior, senior or graduate student during the regular academic year (summer semester not included). Note: This scholarship is intended for students participating in a study abroad program while enrolled at a U.S. institution. Students enrolling directly at a foreign based institution are not eligible. Include in your personal statement the country you will be visiting and semester of study. Minimum GPA 3.0.

Mildred Towle Scholarship for African-Americans

Prerequisites: Be a current year graduating Senior of Moanalua High School. Participate in Math League activities and events.

Nick Van Pernis Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of a public or private high school in the Districts of North Kona, South Kona, North Kohala, South Kohala, or Ka‘u. Major in one of the following fields: Marine Sciences, Biotechnology, Health Sciences or Early Childhood Education. Include in your personal statement a record of community service and a description of how your career may benefit the lives of Hawai‘i residents upon completing your education.

Office of Hawaiian Affairs Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a Hawai`i resident or resident of the continental United States. Demonstrate financial need. Be enrolled full-time or part-time at an accredited two or four year college. Be a classified undergraduate or graduate student. Demonstrate academic achievement at least or above 2.0 for undergraduates and 3.0 for graduates. Be of Hawaiian ancestry. Oscar & Rosetta Fish Fund
Description:  This scholarship was established by Oscar and Rosetta Fish who were committed to helping young people pursue higher education. Oscar was a member of the University of Hawai‘i's College of Business Administration's first MBA graduating class in 1959. Rosetta was a speech teacher at UH Mānoa. They met in Hawai‘i and after living in several other places, returned to Hawai‘i to retire.
Prerequisites: Major in Business. Attend school at any Univeristy of Hawaii campus excluding Mānoa.

Paul & Betty Honzik Scholarship
Prerequisites: Be a member in good standing of any Hawai‘i Presbyterian Church. Attend any four-year college or seminary. A letter of reference from church or pastor is required. Minimum GPA 3.0.

Paulina L. Sorg Scholarship
Description:  This scholarship was established from the Trust of Paulina Sorg for students studying Nursing or Physical Therapy. Ms. Sorg formerly worked at the Department of Health in the Bureau of Crippled Children and Maternal and Child Health. Her dedication to the patients she served in life continues on through this scholarship.
Prerequisites: Be enrolled in a Physical Therapy Program. Be a college junior, senior or graduate student.

Perry & Sally Sorenson Scholarship for Dependents of Hospitality Workers
Prerequisites: Be a dependent of an employee currently employed by Outrigger Enterprises in Hawai‘i working in a hospitality industry position. Demonstrate financial need. Be a resident of the state of Hawai‘i. Minimum GPA of 2.7.

Perry & Sally Sorenson Scholarship for Foster Youth
Prerequisites: Be permanently or temporarily separated from birth parent(s) and aged out of the foster care system in the state of Hawaii. Be between the ages of 18 and 25. Minimum GPA of 2.0. Be a resident of the state of Hawaii.

Peter Papworth Scholarship
Description:  This scholarship was established in memory of Peter Papworth, a Social Studies teacher at Campbell High School. Mr. Papworth was a strong advocate for his students and dedicated his life to teaching and promoting education. It was his hope that you use this scholarship to its fullest extent, to become productive and successful students and make Campbell High School proud.
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of Campbell High School.

PRSA-Hawai‘i/Roy Leffingwell Public Relations Scholarship

Description:  The Robanna Fund was created in 1992 to provide financial assistance to students in the medical field so that they may pursue careers in the health care profession.

Ron Bright Scholarship
Description:  This scholarship was established by former students of Ron Bright who wanted to honor his contributions to the field of teaching. This scholarship hopes to encourage those students pursuing careers in education who also want to make a difference in people\'s lives as Ron Bright has done.
Prerequisites: Be a current year graduating Senior of one of these public Windward O‘ahu high schools: Castle, Kahuku, Kailua, Kalaheo or Olomana. Major in Education. Preference given to students with extra-curricular activities in the performing arts. Applicant\'s transcript must include grades from the first semester of the 12th grade.

Prerequisites: Be a current year graduating Senior of any high school on O‘ahu participating in the Times Shop and Score Program. This academic scholarship was established by Times Supermarket, American Saving Bank and Kraft Foods as a part of their annual Shop and Score program assisting High School Athletics. Tommy Lee Memorial Scholarship Fund
Description:  Thomas "Uncle Tommy" Lee worked for the Dole Food Co. and Castle & Cooke, Inc. for 47 years from 1939 to 1986. After his retirement, he continued to work as a consultant and lobbyist. Active in numerous community and civic organizations and well respected for his political acumen, he was once voted one of the most effective lobbyists by members of the legislature. His co-workers, family and friends established this scholarship fund to carry on his legacy of caring.
Prerequisites: Be a current year graduating high school Senior residing in the Waialua or Haleiwa areas. Two letters of recommendation required.

Toraji & Toki Yoshinaga Scholarship
Prerequisites: Attend Brigham Young University-Hawai‘i, Chaminade University, Hawai‘i Pacific University or Heald College. Be a sophomore.

Troy Barboza Educational Fund Scholarship
Description:  The Troy Barboza Education Fund was created in 1991 in the memory of Troy Barboza, a police officer who was killed in the line of duty. This fund was established to provide education and training assistance in the form of scholarship grants for public employees (and their dependents) who have been killed or injured in the line of duty. The public employee must be in a position where lives are risked for the protection of others. Additionally, funds may be used “for Hawaii residents who have performed heroic or other noteworthy acts that provide for the protection and safety of others.” If you wish to apply under the Hero category, you must fill out a separate paper application. You cannot apply for the Hero award using the online application. Instead, go to the Barboza Fund listing under the category titled Separate Application Materials and Deadlines. You will find a link there to download the Hero application.
Prerequisites: Be a dependent of a Hawai‘i public employee killed or injured in the line of duty (to the extent that they are incapacitated or incapable of continuing their profession). OR Be an past or present public employee injured in the line of duty. The public employee must be in a position where lives are risked for the protection of others.

Vicki Willder Scholarship Fund
Description:  This scholarship was established in memory of Vicki Willder, former KS Food Services employee. Scholarships are to benefit KS Food Services employees and their families.
Prerequisites: Be an employee or the dependent of an employee of Kamehameha Schools food services department or be a graduate of Kamehameha Schools. Preference to students majoring in culinary arts or travel industry management.

Walter H. Kupau Memorial Fund
Prerequisites: Be a descendant of members in good standing with the Hawai‘i Carpenter's Union Local 745 with preference given to descendants of retired members. Proof of membership required.

Will J. Henderson Scholarship Fund in Hawai‘i
Prerequisites: Be a child dependent of a current employee at Queen's Medical Center. Attend or plan to attend any academic or vocational institution in Hawaii and the U.S.A. that is accredited and approved by the Hawai’i Community Foundation. Minimum GPA of 2.0

William James & Dorothy Bading Lanquist Fund
Prerequisites: Major in the Physical Sciences and related fields (excluding Biological and Social Sciences).

Juliette M. Atherton Scholarships for Ordained Protestant Ministers
Prerequisites: Be an ordained Protestant minister. Be a graduate of an accredited school of theology. Be pursuing an advanced degree (generally a doctorate) related to your ministerial profession at an accredited institution. Please note that the Atherton Foundation no longer supports continuing education for ordained ministers. Makinney & Pietsch Families Scholarship for Grades 6-12
Prerequisites: Be a qualified dependent of an eligible employee of Title Guaranty of Hawaii, Incorporated and Title Guaranty Escrow Services, Inc. and their respective subsidiary and affiliated corporations or entities. Eligible employees must be employed full-time and have been with Title Guaranty for at least one year. Be a student in grades 6 to 12. To apply for secondary school scholarships, please visit the company’s intranet. You cannot apply online for grade 6 to 12 scholarships.

Troy Barboza Educational Fund Hero Award
Description:  The Troy Barboza Education Fund was created in 1991 in the memory of Troy Barboza, a police officer who was killed in the line of duty. Download the application form here or contact the Hawai‘i Community Foundation Scholarship Department at 808-566-5570.
Prerequisites: Be a private citizen who has performed a heroic act for the protection and welfare of others. Victoria S. and Bradley L. Geist Foundation
Description:  Both Victoria and Bradley Geist were single children and had no closely related family members. They grew up independently and their successes in life came through their own personal efforts. Applications are accepted throughout the year, but students are strongly encouraged to submit their application by March 1 for the following academic year. Prerequisites: Be currently or formerly placed in the foster care system in the state of Hawai‘i. Applicants must submit a confirmation letter from a DHS or Foster Family Program case worker to verify foster status. Prerequisites: Be a current ABC Stores Employee or Company Island Gourmet Markets or a dependent of a current employee. Attend a program within the U.H. Community College system.

Arthur Jackman Memorial Scholarship
Description:  This scholarship is part of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation's Vocational Education Scholarship Program. Vocational Education describes certification or degree programs designed to teach students skills for a specific segment of employment. Prerequisites: Attend a Fashion Design program within the UH Community College system.

H.C. Shipman Vocational Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be a graduate of Kea‘au High School, Ke Kula ‘O Nawahiokalani‘opu‘u Ili Laboratory Public Charter School, or Waters of Life New Century Public Charter School. Attend a program within the UH Community College system.

Haseko Training Fund
Prerequisites: Be a Ewa Beach resident. Attend a program within the UH Community College system. (Preference given to a student in a Marine related program within the UH Community College system).

Hew-Shinn Scholarship Fund
Description:  This scholarship is part of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation's Vocational Education Scholarship Program. Vocational Education describes certification or degree programs designed to teach students skills for a specific segment of employment. Programs include culinary arts, auto repair, diesel mechanics, cosmetology, computer graphics and assistive medical technology.
Prerequisites: For Maui County residents pursuing vocational education at a school in Hawai‘i or on the mainland US. For students enrolled in vocational education programs in the UH Community College system.

Vocational Education describes certification or degree programs designed to teach students skills for a specific segment of employment. Programs include culinary arts, auto repair, diesel mechanics, cosmetology, computer graphics and assistive medical technology.
Prerequisites: Be a resident of Hawai‘i. Attend an accredited vocational education training or certification program in Hawai‘i or in the continental United States. Concentration in Automotive Technology Program. Preference given to students attending Universal Technical Institute.

March Taylor Educational Fund
Prerequisites: Be from the island of Hawaii, with preference to students from West Hawaii. Be enrolled in an Auto Body Repair & Painting program.

Ouida Mundy Hill Memorial Fund

Snipes-Meyer-Vorhies Nursing Scholarship Fund
Prerequisites: Be enrolled as a student majoring in nursing at Maui Community College, with preference given to students in the Associate of Science (AS) in Nursing or the Certificate of Achievement (CA) programs. Minimum GPA of 3.0 for undergraduate programs; 2.0 for AS and CA programs. Personal statement must include applicant's current and planned community service. Preference may be given to students of Hawaiian ancestry.
