Preference given first to descendants of Hilo Chinese School alumni and second to students of Chinese ancestry.

Be a resident of North or South Kona.
Plan to study in the fields of Healthcare, Education, or Social Work.
Preference given to students demonstrating an emphasis in advancing Native Hawaiian culture.
Include in your personal statement a record of your community service and a description of how your future career may benefit the lives of Hawai'i residents and/or advance Native Hawaaiian culture upon completion of your education.  Also provide information about your intentions to stay in or return to Kona or Hawai'i after completing your education.

Be a current year graduating senior of Hilo High School.  If there are no eligible applicants from Hilo High School, current year graduating seniors will be considered from other Hawai'i Island high schools in the following order of preference: Waiakea High School, St. Joseph High School, other Hawai'i Island high schools.
Be an athlete that participated in more than one varsity sport while in high school.
Atttend a NAIA or Division III school on the mainland.
Have a minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA.
Have leadership experience and qualities as demonstrated by serving as the captain of a varsity sports team, a student government leader or an officer of an extracurricular program.
Have participated in community service.
