Hawai‘i Community Foundation invests charitable funds in communities across the State primarily through nonprofit organizations. Our core programs are designed to support a stronger nonprofit sector as we believe that these organizations are one cornerstone of a vibrant civic society. Our Organizational Effectiveness program strengthens nonprofits by funding their work on organizational capacity building, leadership development, and board governance training. In recent years, Hawai‘i Community Foundation has partnered with various government agencies to bring critical resources to programs in the areas of health and human services. We administer a number of grantmaking programs with targeted purposes or an island-based focus. Hawai‘i Community Foundation also assists several private foundations in delivering their grantmaking programs according to their specific strategies.
Each competitive grant programs have their own funding priorities and proposal requirements. To find the funding sources that best apply to your work, choose from one of the options below to begin your search.
These grants are intended to help nonprofits plan for a smooth transition from one Executive Director (ED) to the next, prior to hiring the new Executive Director. This may be an opportunity to revisit the mission in order to be clear about what an organization needs in a new ED. It may also be an opportunity to revisit the ED's job description and be sure that the board has realistic expectations of a new ED. These grants will not pay for an interim ED, or the costs of recruiting and hiring a new ED.
These grants support the planning and negotiation phase of strategic restructuring or partnership between 2 nonprofits. Strategic restructuring/partnerships involve more than simple collaboration, they involve the sharing of decision-making and possibly governance; mutual commitment for the foreseeable future; integration of organizational systems, structures or programs, and possibly, even the dissolution of an organization(s).
